This book ambitiously takes on history， politics， philosophy， and romantic relationships。 Although some of the political and philosophical arguments were not fully developed or contested and fell a bit short， the character study of the four protagonists made for a gripping read。

3 estrelles perquè no se'n poden posar 2，5 （l'aprovaria pels pèls）。Les idees filosòfiques al voltant de les quals el llibre vol reflexionar （sobretot la lleugeresa i la pesantor de la vida i l'etern retorn） estan bé， però la història a partir de les quals ho fa。。。 no ajuda。 Hi ha escenes， moments， que estan bé i et fan pensar i anar més enllà。 Però és un llibre ple també d'escenes on no pots fer altra cosa que pensar que els personatges són imbècils i no els importa res ni se saben cuidar de les 3 estrelles perquè no se'n poden posar 2，5 （l'aprovaria pels pèls）。Les idees filosòfiques al voltant de les quals el llibre vol reflexionar （sobretot la lleugeresa i la pesantor de la vida i l'etern retorn） estan bé， però la història a partir de les quals ho fa。。。 no ajuda。 Hi ha escenes， moments， que estan bé i et fan pensar i anar més enllà。 Però és un llibre ple també d'escenes on no pots fer altra cosa que pensar que els personatges són imbècils i no els importa res ni se saben cuidar de les altres persones， no tenen cap responsabilitat ni ganes de ser bons amb els altres， o si ho volen， ho fan fatal。Per altra banda， és claríssim el marc conceptual masclista/misògin/heterocèntric del llibre i del seu autor。。。 no el jutjaré per això perquè és de l'època que és i els moments històrics són diferents， però per una persona jove， llegir una història amb una presència tan forta de tants estereotips encara nocius avui en dia es fa molt pesat。 。。。more

La insoportable levedad del serUna magnifica novela que explora mediante las relaciones de un grupo de personas， temas como el amor， el sexo， los celos， la misión de vida， los deseos， la identidad del propio ser。 Entremezclando de forma que se siente natural con el desarrollo de la historia entreteje reflexiones， conceptos filosóficos， discursos sobre esos temas y otros de las relaciones interpersonales， de lo que las personas desean y por qué hacen ciertas cosas， o llevan a otros a hacer。Tambié La insoportable levedad del serUna magnifica novela que explora mediante las relaciones de un grupo de personas， temas como el amor， el sexo， los celos， la misión de vida， los deseos， la identidad del propio ser。 Entremezclando de forma que se siente natural con el desarrollo de la historia entreteje reflexiones， conceptos filosóficos， discursos sobre esos temas y otros de las relaciones interpersonales， de lo que las personas desean y por qué hacen ciertas cosas， o llevan a otros a hacer。También explora junto a la historia de los personajes， momentos de la republica checa， la invasión rusa， la policía social， los efectos de la vida de Praga， y lo hace interesante。Kundera tiene una forma de escribir que hace fluir el libro， que a pesar de que en momentos te hace pausar para pensar en lo que lees， y te lleva a tener un dialogo interno sobre sus proclamas filosóficas o sociales， es fácil retomar la lectura。La otra es que a pesar de que los personajes en este libro están construidos de forma sencilla sobre dos o tres aspectos que los definen， sus acciones， sus relaciones， sus monólogos， superan su construcción unidimensional y te hacen interesarte en ellos， como no sentir la dependencia de Tomas por el amor de Teresa， compartir el entusiasmo de Sabina por encontrar lo que le permita romper con la definición que se ha formado de si misma， entender los celos de Teresa mientras busca en el amor una forma de escapar a su autocompasión， quizá el único con el que no conecte tanto fue Franz。Hay por ahí un capítulo que inicia con la reflexión sobre las tripas de Dios， y luego ahonda en el concepto del Kitsch， este quizá es el que menos se integra orgánicamente a la historiaY ese capítulo final centrado en Karenin。4。5 star 。。。more

Much acclaimed book written by Milan Kundera， this was the first title I read from him。 The first 40 pages are kind of confusing， and I felt lost and uninterested， I almost lost my appetite for carrying on reading， but I decided to not give up when I reached the 70/80 pages of the narrative， the story became much more clear。 The Unbearable Lightness of Being has dark and light shades， its a text about the private life of people in Czechoslovakia， their relationship with Socialism/ Communism， but Much acclaimed book written by Milan Kundera， this was the first title I read from him。 The first 40 pages are kind of confusing， and I felt lost and uninterested， I almost lost my appetite for carrying on reading， but I decided to not give up when I reached the 70/80 pages of the narrative， the story became much more clear。 The Unbearable Lightness of Being has dark and light shades， its a text about the private life of people in Czechoslovakia， their relationship with Socialism/ Communism， but also the hypocritical world on the western side of the wall。 。。。more

What is this book about？ About everything and nothing， about life。 This novelistic 'jumble of ideas' is not a systematic philosophy， but the contingency-driven exploration of a space of possibility。 Kundera is very open about the nature of his artistic impulse: "The characters of my novel are my own unrealised possibilities 。。。 Each of them has crossed a border that I myself merely skirted。 （。。。） A novel is not a confession by the author， but an examination of human life in the trap that the wor What is this book about？ About everything and nothing， about life。 This novelistic 'jumble of ideas' is not a systematic philosophy， but the contingency-driven exploration of a space of possibility。 Kundera is very open about the nature of his artistic impulse: "The characters of my novel are my own unrealised possibilities 。。。 Each of them has crossed a border that I myself merely skirted。 （。。。） A novel is not a confession by the author， but an examination of human life in the trap that the world has become。" The trap of the world is a fall into meaninglessness， into a postmodern void。 No great narratives or structures to hold on to。 A Great March of history that has dissolved into the ominous silence of a sprawling rainforest。 Perhaps diffuse， elementary fields of tension - heaviness and lightness， body and soul - still offer a possibility of orientation。 Between these poles， life unfolds as a series of coincidences to which we may or may not choose to give meaning。 This lightness of existence can nevertheless， or precisely because of it， produce moments of transcendent beauty。 Life as a work of art。 No wonder Nietzsche so often acts as a prompter here。 And where does that leave morality？ In particular， where is morality in a context in which a society has become a prison？ That remains opaque。 Kundera suggests that resistance to totalitarianism is often no more than a heroic pose。 Love， even boundless love， is the result of a vaguely felt calculation: "We will never be able to determine with certainty to what extent our relationship to other people is the result of our feelings， our love， non-love， goodness or anger， and to what extent it is determined by the balance of forces between the individual persons。" So what is left for us to do？ Only in our relationship with subjects who do not represent power - more particularly animals - can our goodness manifest itself in complete purity and freedom。 The far-reaching instrumentalisation of the animal in the service of man is emblematic of 'the fundamental bankruptcy of man'。 Within the social and political sphere， we can choose to take a non-position。 In his Testaments Betrayed， Kundera writes the following about his choice to write novels: "More than the Terror， the lyricisation of Terror was a trauma for me。 I was forever inoculated against all lyrical temptations。 The only thing I wanted deeply， greedily， was an honest and disillusioned look。 I finally found it in the art of the novel。 That is why for me being a novelist was more than practising a literary genre among others; it was an attitude， a wisdom， a position; a position excluding any identification with politics， religion， ideology， morality， community; a stubborn， enraged conscious non-identification， conceived not as escape or passivity， but as resistance， defiance， revolt。 I ended up having these strange dialogues: "Are you a communist， Mr Kundera？ -- "No， I'm a novelist。" "Are you a dissident？" -- "No， I'm a novelist。" "Are you left or right？" -- "Neither。 I'm a novelist。" 。。。more

¿Se puede condenar algo fugaz？ Una lectura muy reflexiva con una historia y personajes que salen de las páginas a hacerse presentes en tu cabeza， el eterno retorno y la dualidad entre peso y levedad me deja con más preguntas que respuestas pero satisfecha de haber seguido la vida de estos cuatro personajes y su manera de enfrentar y conllevar estos polos， primera lectura de Milán Kundera y quedé más que feliz。

At first， I found the beginning of this book to be extremely slow-moving and felt as if it was dragging on。 The addition of all the metaphors （which of course， Kundera is known for） in the first chapters could have just as easily been intertwined within the actual story rather than including separate chapters solely for these metaphors at the very beginning before the story even begins to be told 。 Thomas （the male protagonists） and Tereza （the female protagonist） lack personality and I found th At first， I found the beginning of this book to be extremely slow-moving and felt as if it was dragging on。 The addition of all the metaphors （which of course， Kundera is known for） in the first chapters could have just as easily been intertwined within the actual story rather than including separate chapters solely for these metaphors at the very beginning before the story even begins to be told 。 Thomas （the male protagonists） and Tereza （the female protagonist） lack personality and I found them to be extremely one-dimensional， however， once the two other male （Franz） and female （Sabina） characters get introduced the book begins to look up slightly because they are far more likeable than Thomas and Tereza。 Kundera does indeed create beautiful symbolism in his words throughout which I was unsurprised about having read some of his other work。 Nonetheless， the two major characters are extremely boring and both make terrible decision after terrible decision， making you root nor feel sympathy for either of them。 The lack of connection I had with the characters paired with the unnecessarily high amount of pseudo-philosophy made this book extremely hard for me to actually want to finish。 。。。more
